4. Make sure that the note name display shows the desired note name, and

then adjust the pitch of your instrument.

DTR-2000 only: Tuning with a reference tone

1. Make the desired calibration and flat settings, and select the desired tuning

mode.

2. Simultaneously press the DISPLAY switch and CHROMATIC switch to

enter Sound mode. The Sound indicator will light.

3. A reference tone will sound from the SOUND jack. Use the controls of the

connected amp or mixer etc. to adjust the volume.

4. If you want to raise the pitch of the reference tone, press the CHROMATIC

switch. If you want to lower the pitch, press the DISPLAY switch. The pitch
will rise or fall in steps according to the tuning mode you selected.

When you enter Sound mode, the reference tone will be "A" for Chromatic
mode, or the lowest note for the other tuning modes.

If you are producing sound on your instrument at the moment you enter
Sound mode, the DTR-2000 will output the reference tone that is closest to
that note.

5. Tune your instrument to the reference tone.

6. To exit Sound mode, simultaneously press the DISPLAY switch and the

CHROMATIC switch. The Sound mode indicator will go dark.

Calibration procedure

Calibration can be performed in one of two ways: you can use Manual calibration
to adjust the setting from the front panel of the DTR-2000/1000, or you can use
Auto Reference calibration to detect the pitch of the input instrument and use it
as the reference pitch.
The calibration setting you make is remembered until you turn off the power
switch. When you turn on the power, the calibration will be set to A=440 Hz.

Manual calibration

1. Press the CALIB switch, and the multi-LCD will display the lowest digit of

the current calibration value (the range is 438 Hz–445 Hz). If Auto Reference
calibration was used to specify a value that is outside this range, the display
will indicate "L" (lower) or "H" (higher).

2. Each time you press the CALIB switch, the value will change in steps of 1

Hz.

3. To return to a reference pitch of 440 Hz, press the CALIB switch several

times to make the multi-LED read "0."

If you hold down the CALIB switch for one second or longer, Auto Reference
calibration will occur.

Auto Reference calibration

1. If you want to use the pitch of an electric guitar or keyboard etc. as the

reference pitch, connect it to INPUT 1 (or 2) and play a single note on your
instrument.

On the DTR-2000, you can use the internal mic to pick up the sound of an
acoustic instrument and use it as the reference pitch. (See left column,
"Connections.")

2. When the tuning meter stops moving, press and hold the CALIB switch

(approximately one second) until the meter display disappears briefly.

3. The note name will be detected automatically, and the calibration value will

be set. The multi-LED will display the lowest digit of the 438 Hz–445 Hz
value, or "L" (lower) or "H" (higher).

The note you play on your instrument does not need to be "A."

On the DTR-2000, play a note that the selected tuning mode is able to detect
(e.g., if GUITAR mode is selected, play E, A, D, G, or B.)

The DTR-2000/1000 can detect a pitch deviation of +/-50 cents, so even if you
use a note other than "A" to set the reference pitch, that note name will
automatically be detected (within a range of +/-50 cents), and used for Auto
Reference calibration.

However in such cases, the multi-LED will display the calibration value as if the
input note were converted to A4 (middle "A" on a piano).

Auto Reference calibration will not occur if the input note is unstable or not
loud enough for detection.

If you press and immediately release the CALIB switch, Manual calibration
will occur.

If you press the CALIB switch before the meter movement stabilizes, the
reference pitch will not be detected accurately.

Flat tuning

When you press the FLAT switch, the note name display will indicate a semitone
higher than the actual pitch. Each time you press the switch, the setting will be
lowered by one flat, allowing you to lower the tuning by a maximum of seven
flats.
The number of flats will be displayed in the multi-LED for approximately one
second after you press the FLAT switch. Also, the indicator beside the switch
will be lit while you are using flat tuning. To exit Flat tuning, press the FLAT
switch
several times to make the multi-LED show "0." The indicator beside the
switch will go dark.

DTR-2000 only: Tuning mode

You can use the CHROMATIC switch and MODE switch to change the tuning
mode.
When you turn on the power, Chromatic mode will be selected.
When you press the MODE switch, Guitar mode will be selected. To select
other modes, press the button several times to select the desired mode.
