fluorescent lamps

excellent lighting begins with us

The electrodes in a fluorescent lamp need to warm up

before the lamp is fully lit, which is why fluorescent lamps

take time to respond to being switched on.To cut down on

response times, some systems apply a high ignition voltage

– higher than the mains voltage – to start the lamp faster.

This works well but at the significant cost of reducing the

lamp’s lifetime. Over time, the cost of these traditional

instant start systems begins to show in the unnecessary

outlay on replacement lamps.With the

Philips has solved this problem by introducing a program

start, a special

IC

circuit that preheats the lamp’s electrodes

ready for the time they are needed. This program maximises

lamp life and reduces costs.
