Controlling Components Using the IR FLASHER Outputs

The IR flasher outputs on the MRZ-6 are used to drive Niles IR flashers which retransmit the IR commands that control
your remote controllable components. The MRZ-6 is equipped with two types of flasher outputs, a DEDICATED
FLASHER output and a COMMON FLASHER output. Use Niles IRC-2P MicroFlashers with the MRZ-6, they are
equipped with a 3.5 mono mini-plug.

DEDICATED FLASHER Output

• The DEDICATED FLASHER outputs only the IR commands received from this particular MRZ-6; it is gener-

ally used for control of a receiver or pre-amp dedicated to this particular MRZ-6.

• A DIP switch on the rear panel of the MRZ-6 transforms the DEDICATED FLASHER into a COMMON

FLASHER. This is useful when a large single zone system is created using one preamp/receiver to select
sources and multiple MRZ-6s to control room volume. A change of input from any room will change the
input of the preamp/receiver if the dedicated flasher is transformed into a common flasher via the ZONE
dipswitch. See Page 19.

COMMON FLASHER Output

• The COMMON FLASHER outputs IR commands received from any MRZ-6 linked via the IR DATA IN and

OUTS.

Making the IR Flasher Connections

• CAUTION: Power to the MRZ-6 and amplifier must be disconnected.

• For your convenience, all FLASHER output connectors on the MRZ-6 are jacks, use the Niles IRC-2P

MicroFlasher

TM

, since utilizes a 3.5 mono mini plug.

• Observe proper polarity when extending the IR flasher wire.

• To extend the flasher cable, use unshielded, two-conductor 16 gauge cable (“zip-cord”). Flasher cable can

be extended up to 200 feet.

Connecting Two Flashers to a Single Flasher Output

• After cutting off the plugs and stripping the wire ends of two IRC-2P flashers, use crimp caps, wire nuts or

solder to connect the negative of one flasher to the positive of the next flasher (this creates a “series” circuit),
then connect one of the plugs (observing correct polarity), and inserting the plug into an MRZ-6 flasher jack.
An MRZ-6 FLASHER output allows a maximum of two IRC-2P MicroFlashers to be connected if they are
wired in series.
