Playback

Randomly spaced bright pixels
(“noise”) appear in image.

Shutter speed too slow or ISO sensitivity is high as
the subject is dark. Noise can be reduced by:
Using flash.
Specifying a lower ISO sensitivity setting.
Using a scene mode which has noise

reduction ability.

Pictures are too dark
(underexposed).

Flash is off.
Flash window is blocked.
Subject is beyond flash range.
Adjust exposure compensation.
Select High ISO sensitivity auto for ISO

sensitivity in the shooting menu, or raise the
ISO sensitivity.

Subject is backlit. Select o (Backlight scene

mode) or use fill flash.

Unexpected results when flash
set to V (auto with red-eye
reduction).

If taking pictures with V (auto with red-eye
reduction) or fill flash with slow sync and red-eye
reduction when scene mode is set to Night
portrait
, In-Camera Red Eye Fix may be applied to
areas not affected by red-eye. Use any scene mode
other than Night portrait, and change the flash
to any other settings other than V (auto with
red-eye reduction) and try shooting again.
