❚❚Manual Cleaning

If foreign matter can not be removed from the low-pass filter using
the [Clean image sensor] (pg. 373) option in the setup menu, the
filter can be cleaned manually as described below. Note, however,
that the filter is extremely delicate and easily damaged. Nikon
recommends that the filter be cleaned only by Nikon-authorized
service personnel.

1

Charge the battery or connect an AC adapter.

A reliable power source is required when inspecting or
cleaning the low-pass filter. If the battery level is below

J

(60 %), turn the camera off and insert a fully-charged EN-EL3e
battery or connect an optional EH-5a or EH-5 AC adapter.

2

Select [Lock mirror up for cleaning].

Remove the lens and turn the camera on.
Highlight [Lock mirror up for cleaning] in
the setup menu and press

2 (note that

this option is not available at battery
levels of

J or below).

3

Press

J.

The message shown at right will be
displayed in the monitor and a row of
dashes will appear in the control panel
and viewfinder. To restore normal
operation without inspecting the low-
pass filter, turn the camera off.
