Troubleshooting
To convert MHz to kHz, multiply the number of mega-
hertz by 1,000:
30.62 (MHz)
×
1000 = 30,620 kHz
To convert from kHz to MHz, divide the number of kilo-
hertz by 1,000:
127,800 (kHz)
÷
1000 = 127.8 MHz
To convert MHz to meters, divide 300 by the number of
megahertz:
300
÷
50 MHz = 6 meters

Troubleshooting
If you have problems with your scanner, here are some
suggestions that might help you eliminate the problem. If
they do not, take your scanner to your local Ra-
dioShack store for assistance.

Scanner is on 
but will not

SQUELCH is not 
adjusted cor-
rectly.
Turn SQUELCH clock-
wise. See “Turning on

rectly.
Make sure an antenna 
is connected to the 
scanner.
Programmed fre-
quencies are the 
same as birdie 
frequencies.
Avoid programming 
birdie frequencies or 
only select them manu-

quencies” on Page 59.
In the scan 
mode, the 
scanner locks 
on frequen-
cies that have 
an unclear 
transmission.
Stored frequen-
cies are the 
same as “birdie” 
frequencies.
Avoid storing birdie fre-
quencies or only select
