Checking the Focus and Shooting

(Half-press)

When you press the shutter release button halfway (half-press),
the autofocus function is triggered to determine the focal distance.
Subsequently press it all the way down (full-press) to shoot.
This is useful when the subject is not in the middle (see P.36).

1.

Make sure the power is on, then
turn the Mode Dial to
5 or A/M.

2.

Compose your shot either by
looking through the viewfinder or
at the LCD monitor.

3.

Put the subject of your photo right
in the middle and press the
shutter release button half-way.

The f-stop (aperture size) and shutter
speed are displayed in the bottom part of
the screen, and the camera focuses.
Once focused, the exposure and white
balance are fixed.
If the automatic focusing fails, the
crosshairs in the center of the LCD monitor
turn red and the auto-focus lamp in the
upper left of the viewfinder blinks in green.
