Tuning

Use a tuning meter, pitch pipe, tuning fork, piano, etc., and tune the open strings to

the pitches shown below.

• If the string’s pitch is high, loosen the string until the string’s pitch is slightly lower than the tuning pitch,

then tune while raising the string’s pitch.

Play the standard pitch “lah” (A3: 440Hz) on a tuning fork, etc., and tune the open 5th string to the

same pitch.

Play the pitch produced by pressing the 5th string at the 5th fret, and tune the open 4th string to the

same pitch.

Play the pitch produced by pressing the 4th string at the 5th fret, and tune the open 3rd string to the

same pitch.

Play the pitch produced by pressing the 3rd string at the 4th fret, and tune the open 2nd string to the

same pitch.

5.

Play the pitch produced by pressing the 2nd string at the 5th fret, and tune the open 1st string to the

same pitch.

Play the pitch produced by pressing the 6th string at the 5th fret, and tune the pitch at the 5

th
