The installation and use of electrical appliances
must be carried out with due caution in order
to avoid the risk of fire, electric shock or injury.
The equipment must only be used as de-
scribed in these instructions. Any use outside
of the manufacturer recommendations could
lead to damage, fire, shock or injury.

Before using the appliance the instructions
should be read in their entirety and all ap-
propriate handling of the equipment must be
observed.

These instructions should be kept
safely and passed on to any future

owner.
In the event of any repair work, hand them
to the qualified installer for his attention.

1.1 Description of the unit

The automatically operating Stiebel Eltron

HTE 4 and HTE 5 electronic hand dryers are

fitted with a proximity switch which activates

the fan when your hands are brought towards

it, (approximately 60 - 10 mm below the

warm air exit grille). The dryer automatically

switches off approximately 3 seconds after the

hands have moved away from the sensor.

The casing design does not allow cigarettes

or drinks etc to be placed on top, causing a

hazard. To retain this feature, when assembling

ensure that there are no gaps between the

wall and the unit.

In addition, the HTE 5 is protected against

damage by the cast aluminium casing.

1.2 Operation

In order to save energy and shorten the dry-

ing time, vigorously shake wet hands over the

washbasin, then hold your hands beneath the

air exit grille rubbing them together in the

warm airstream.

1.3 Safety notes

Do not operate the appliance

– in rooms which present fire or explosion

risks as a result of chemicals, dust, gases
or fumes;

– in the immediate vicinity of pipes or con-

tainers which carry or contain combusti-
ble or potentially explosive substances;

– if the minimum distances from adjoining

surfaces of objects are not met.

The appliance must not under any circum-
stances be operated if work such as the laying
of floor, polishing, sealing, cleaning with petrol
and maintenance of floors (spray, wax) and
similar is being carried out in the room where
it is installed. Afterwards, the room must be
sufficiently ventilated before the appliance is
operated.

During operation, temperatures of over 90 °C
can occur at the warm-air exit grille. Due to
the risk of overheating this should not be cov-
ered. There is a risk of burns!
Children must be kept away from the
appliance!

No objects of any kind must be placed on
the unit, leaned against it, or put between the
heating unit and the wall.

In addition, no combustible, flammable, or heat
insulating objects or materials such as washing,
blankets, magazines, containers holding floor
wax or petrol, spray cans and the like, should
be placed in the immediate vicinity of the unit.
Danger of fire!

In order to avoid overheating, the heater must
not be covered.

In the event of overheating the temperature

safety cut out switches off the heating ele-

ment and the fan continues to run in a cooling

mode. The heating element switches back on

after approximately two minutes.

No articles must fall, hang, lay or stick into
any opening of the appliance. This can lead to
deadly current draws and/or fires.

No changes at the equipment must be made.

Special caution is required, if the appliance is
used in the presence of children, invalid per-
sons or animals. Danger of injury!

Ensure that the air inlet grilles on the under-

side and rear of the dryer are always kept

open.

Trouble-free function and operational safety
can only be guaranteed if the original Stiebel
Eltron accessories and spare parts are used.

1.4 Care

When cleaning the casing, only use a soft

cloth, with a mild detergent if necessary, and

repolish with a soft cloth. Do not spray the

dryer with water or use any abrasive or caus-

tic cleaning agents.

1.5 Trouble-shooting

Like all proximity switches, the operation of

the sensor is impaired if it is covered. If this

happens the hand dryer automatically switch-

es off after 3 seconds preventing it from run-

ning continuously. In the event of an operating

failure, check that the sensor has not been

covered. After the removal of any objects the

dryer should function as normal.
