TapeAssure overview

The first item displayed in the TapeAssure tab is the TapeAssure Overview. This overview lists the
systems monitored by HP TapeAssure. If there is data about standalone tape drives in the database,
then this is also referenced.

Library and serial number information

The TapeAssure data contains references to library names or serial numbers. For standalone tape
drives, this column indicates the name of the server to which the standalone drives are connected.
This field may be truncated if the server name is long.

About the operation of the TapeAssure service

The TapeAssure service is implemented as a Windows service that can be started and stopped in the
same way other Windows services — from the Services view of the Computer Management window.

TapeAssure is designed to pull a support ticket at the end of every backup. With tape libraries, this
is triggered by the tape being unloaded by the application, but with standalone tape drives, the tape
is often left in the drive after the backup and no unload command is sent from the application. To pull
tickets in this case, the TapeAssure service is configured to pull a support ticket at six-hour intervals,
