Preparing for Shredding operations

Before performing shredding operations, change the status of the target volume to Blocked.

NOTE:

When you change the status of a volume to Blocked, I/O operations cannot be performed on the
volume. By specifying write permissions, you can limit who is allowed to perform shredding operations.

1.

In the XP Command View Advanced Edition Software or XP Remote Web Console main pane,
change to Modify mode by clicking the button (

). A message pane appears asking if you

want to change the mode.

2.

Click OK. The operation mode changes.

3.

Select a CU group from the drop-down list in the upper right of the XP Remote Web Console
main pane.

4.

In the Volume Manager pane, click LDEV Status. The status of volumes is displayed in the Status
column in the LDEV Information table.

NOTE:

If hyphens appear in the Status column, click LDEV Status in the Volume Manager pane to
display the status of volumes (for example, Normal or Blocked).

5.

Select the target volume in the LDEV Information table.

6.

Right click the target volume, and select Blockade. Information about the target volume is shown
in blue and italics.

7.

Click Apply. A message pane appears asking if you want to apply the settings.

8.

Click OK. The status of the volume changes to Blocked.

NOTE:

If you select Restore and click Apply, you can change the status of the volume from Blocked
to Normal again. However, you cannot perform this operation on virtual volumes (V-VOLs).
