Firmware Update Capability

The tape drive complies with the ANSI standard for SCSI-2. The tape media
format follows ECMA approved and ANSI proposed standards.

The DLTtape IV tape cartridge can be used in the tape drive. With this tape
cartridge, up to 35.0 GB noncompressed formatted data can be stored.

The DLTtape III and DLTtape IIIXT tape may also be used in the tape drive.
Using this tape, the user may select tape densities for compatibility.

The user can select tape density on the drive front panel or by using the SCSI
MODE SELCT command. The tape drive can write and read 2.6, 6.0, 10.0, 15.0,
20.0, or 35 GB tape formats for 100% interchange compatibility with earlier
drives. On a write from BOT, the tape drive reformats the cartridge recorder at
2.6, 6.0, 10.0, 15.0, or 20.0 GB format to new specified format.

Firmware Update Capability

The tape drive includes Flash EEPROM technology that allows easy on-site
installation of microcode updates from tape.

Embedded Diagnostics

The tape drive provides three levels of embedded diagnostics: The Power-On-
Self-Test (POST) performs various verification tests on the processor’s host
interface and device control functions, memory tests at power-up. The second
level of diagnostics is the User Diagnostics. These include provision for
changing configuration options, and manual control of cartridge movement to
assist the user in diagnosing faults. The third level, CE Diagnostics, includes
more advanced diagnostics to be used by Customer Engineers for servicing the
tape drive. Both the User Diagnostics and the CE Diagnostics can be selected
from the front panel.
