Inserting and Removing Tape Cartridges

Inserting and Removing Tape Cartridges

Remove the tape magazine from the tape drive to insert or remove tape
cartridges. When inserting tape cartridges, check that the slot intended for use is
not already reserved in the server map for a tape cartridge in a tape drive. To
avoid conflicts, unload the tape drive, either through the server software or by
using the Load/Unload command on the Main menu, described earlier in this
section.

To insert or remove the tape magazine:

The control panel must be unlocked; otherwise, it is impossible to enter the
menu mode.

The NonStop server must allow removal of the tape magazine. The server
software can enable or disable the tape drive door unlock function by using
the SCSI Prevent/Allow Medium Removal command. If the server is
preventing removal when you select Unlock Door on the Main menu and
press Enter, the message “Magazine Locked” appears. To release the lock,
exit the server software. If the server failure prevents the server from
releasing the lock, power up the tape drive.

Note. If the above conditions are met and you are still unable to open the magazine door, see
“Emergency Magazine Removal”.
