Although the following list varies slightly for different HP notebook products, the
basic tests typically include the following:

Basic Functionality Tests, to verify the correct functioning of the processor and
subsystems:
o Basic processor functionality
o Processor speed
o Coprocessor
o DMA controller
o Interrupt controller
o Timer and real time clock
o CMOS
o PCI system
o USB

Memory Tests, to check the correct functioning of main and cache memory:
o BIOS ROM
o Pattern Test
o Address
o Refresh
o Cache memory

IDE hard disk drive, to check the basic functioning of any IDE hard disk drives:
o Quick random read-verify/seek
o Boot sector

SCSI hard disk drive, to check the basic functioning of any SCSI hard disk drives:
o Quick random read-verify/seek
o Boot sector

Keyboard tests:
o Keyboard controller
o Keyboard clock line
o Keyboard data line

o Basic serial port test (does not include data transfer – this is an advanced
test)
