Device Manager Operations 21

The cache logical partition function allows you to establish an environment in which I/O operations on a
specific volume do not affect the processing performance of other volumes. For details, refer to the
Disk/Cache Partition manual.

Device Manager can display attributes of the cache logical partition function on the logical volume. You
can set up the cache logical partition function from the physical view. For details about the physical view,
see section

Storage logical partition function. A StorageWorks XP12000/XP10000 that can use Disk/Cache Partition
can logically divide the resources in a storage subsystem (such as ports, CLPRs, and LDEVs) into
partitions, and manage these resources individually. This function is called the storage logical partition
function. A partition of the resources is called a SLPR (storage logical partition).
An environment using the storage logical partition function has an administrator for the entire storage
subsystem as well as administrators for individual SLPRs. An administrator for a SLPR is called a
partitioned storage administrator.

Figure 2-1

shows an example of managing the partitioned resources

using the storage logical partition function.

For details, refer to the Disk/Cache Partition manual.

In Device Manager, you can set the user ID of a partitioned storage administrator when you add a storage
subsystem. This allows you to limit the resources that the partitioned storage administrator can access. Device
Manager can also display the attribute of the storage logical partition function for the logical volume.

The storage logical partition function can be set up from the physical view. For details about the physical view,

2-3-2 Configuring the StorageWorks XP1024/XP128 Storage Subsystem

Device Manager supports the following subsystem and volume configuration functions for the HP
StorageWorks XP1024/XP128 storage subsystem:

Configure Ports. Device Manager allows you to configure the host mode and fibre topology settings for
the fibre-channel ports on the StorageWorks XP1024/XP128 storage subsystem (see section

10-3-1

).

Configure Adapters. Device Manager allows you to configure the speed mode for the fibre-channel
adapters on the StorageWorks XP1024/XP128 storage subsystem (see section

10-3-4

). Standard mode
