This chapter describes the requirements for Web Client operations, preparations for accessing the Web Client,
and the requirements and procedures for installing the Java™ environment.

3-1 Requirements for Web Client Operations

The requirements for Device Manager Web Client operations are:

Device Manager server. The Device Manager server must be installed, configured, and fully operational.

Platform for Device Manager Web Client. Device Manager supports the following operating systems for

Web Browser for HTML GUI. Device Manager supports the following web browsers for Web Client:

For HP-UX: Mozilla™ 1.7.3_02 provided by HP

Environment variable setting for Web Client in Solaris™ or HP-UX: When Web Client is used in Solaris™
or HP-UX, the PATH environment variable must contain the entry for the Netscape

®

and Mozilla™

installation directories to enable launching of the help and report functions and other applications.

Note on Solaris™ language setting: In a Solaris™ environment, make sure that the web browser
language setting and the X-terminal setting are the same. If they are different, the title bar character
strings may not display correctly.

Note on non-Windows

®

environment: If you display the Web Client GUI reference with Netscape

®

or

Mozilla™, italics and bold may not display correctly.

Note on third-party cookie setting: The web browser you use to view the Command View XP Advanced
Edition Web Client must be configured to allow third-party cookies. Errors may occur if the browser is
configured to block third-party cookies.

Java™ execution environment. Device Manager Web Client requires the following Java™ software
environment:

Java™ Runtime Environment (JRE) version 1.4.2_XX (“XX”: 06 or later)

Java™ Web Start (JWS) version 1.4.2_XX (“XX”: 06 or later)

NOTE:

It is recommended that you use the latest version for “XX”.

NOTE:

Installing JRE version 1.4.2 automatically installs JWS 1.4.2.

Agent (recommended, optional). The Device Manager agent is recommended but not required for Device
Manager operations. If the Device Manager agent is installed, Device Manager will display usage and file
system information for the storage assigned to the host. For more information, refer to the HP
