Installing Device Manager Web Client 30

3-6 Setting Up Secure Communication with Device Manager

When setting up a Device Manager system, you need to perform security setup to ensure safe communication
over the Internet or an intranet. With Device Manager, you can use secure sockets layer (SSL) and transport
layer security (TLS) to encrypt network communications between Web Client and either the Device Manager
server or Common Web Service. For details about security for Device Manager server, refer to the HP
StorageWorks Command View XP Advanced Edition Device Manager Server Installation and Configuration
Guide
.

When you use a TLS/SSL connection with the Device Manager server and the certificate or authority issuing
the certificate is not trusted, a warning dialog box displays when you start the session.

This warning dialog box is displayed for Device Manager when HTML help is displayed from the following
Java™ GUI dialog boxes:

Physical view dialog box

User administration dialog box

User properties dialog box

User group administration dialog box

User group properties dialog box

To stop the warning dialog box from being displayed, you must import the certificate into your browser. To
import the certificate into your browser, follow the instructions displayed in the appropriate dialog box.
