Performing Device Manager System Operations 46

Method frame. Displays the available operations for the object selected in the navigation frame. When an
operation is selected in the method frame, Device Manager displays either a pop-up window or a
subwindow in the information frame to allow you to perform the selected operation.

Information frame. Displays the detailed information for the selected object (navigation frame) and/or
operation (method frame) and allows you to select the settings for and perform the selected operation.
The information frame displays the location of the selected management object within the Device
Manager object hierarchy, starting from the root object in the navigation frame (Device Manager) and with
the objects separated by right angle brackets (>).

For example, when you select host_0 in the navigation frame, the information frame displays: Device
Manager > Hosts > host_0

A filtering feature is provided in the following three subwindows in the information frame:

Open-Allocated subwindow of All Storage (My Storage) (see section

8-2-1

)

Open-Unallocated subwindow of All Storage (My Storage) (see section

8-2-2

)

Mainframe-Unspecified subwindow of All Storage (My Storage) (see section

8-2-3

)

Show Properties - host name subwindow (see section

9-4

)

There are three kinds of conditions you can specify when the filtering feature is used:

Range specification: To specify conditions, enter numeric values in the FROM and TO text boxes.
You can also specify only one of these values. If FROM is blank, the minimum value is applied. If TO
is blank, the maximum value is applied. To specify no conditions, leave both text boxes blank.
You can use a specified range to set conditions for LDEV numbers. To set these conditions, enter
values according to the display format for LDEV numbers, in FROM and TO.

Perfect match specification: Use the drop-down list to specify a condition. LDEVs for which the item
contents match the specified condition will be displayed. To specify no condition, select (Not
Specified). To specify a blank value, select (blank).

Partial match specification: Use the drop-down list to specify a condition. You can specify that items
include the matched value. For example, when filtering is performed with P-VOL selected for the
Copy Role drop-down list, both P-VOL and P-VOL S-VOL LDEVs are displayed. To specify no
condition, select (Not Specified). To specify a blank value, select (blank).

NOTE:

When multiple conditions are specified, the search is performed using the AND condition. If no

matching LDEVs exist, only the title line is displayed. Filtering can also be used in conjunction with the
sort function. Make sure you perform filtering first, because the sort will be cleared when filtering is
performed.

NOTE:

Regarding the Display of Capacity: The rules for calculating the capacity and the display format

are as follows, unless otherwise specified in the description of items.

The capacity is calculated in kilobytes.

The unit of display changes according to the capacity. If the capacity is less than 1 GB, the capacity is displayed
in MB. If the capacity exceeds 1 GB, the MB display changes to the GB display. If the capacity exceeds 1 TB,
the GB display changes to the TB display.

For the MB display, the fractional portion of the value is truncated. For the GB and TB displays, the value is
truncated to two decimal places.

Pop-up windows. The pop-up windows display the detailed information for the operation selected in the
method frame and allow you to select the settings for and perform the selected operation.
Each pop-up window displays the location of the selected management object within the Device Manager
object hierarchy, starting from the root object in the navigation frame (Device Manager) and with the
objects separated by right angle brackets (>).

For example, when you select Hosts in the navigation frame and then select Add Host in the method
frame, the pop-up window displays: Device Manager > Hosts

5-2-1 Menu Bar

The menu bar on the Command View XP AE Device Manager main window (refer to

Figure 5-3

) allows you to

access the following functions:

Tools. Opens a tool window that allows you to launch programs other than Device Manager. If you want
to launch other web applications from Device Manager Web Client, register the applications in the Device
Manager server, and then Web Client will display the registered programs under Other Application in the
Tools window (see section

5-7

). For details on registering web applications, refer to the HP StorageWorks

Command View XP Advanced Edition Device Manager Server Installation and Configuration Guide.
