NOTE:

You must collect configuration data before collecting performance data for the first time. You cannot stop

Configuration Data Collection once it is started.

Collecting configuration data

You can collect configuration data of an array either through the In Band or the Out Band mode. The in

band mode uses the Raid Manager Library (RMLib) to collect data of an array. The out band mode uses

the Remote Method Invocation (RMI) to collect data of the array from the SVP. Using the out band mode

ensures that the performance of SAN is not affected because of data collection.

NOTE:

Configuration Data collection through out band mode is not supported for XP256/XP48/XP512/

XP24000 arrays. You cannot collect configuration data for Continuous Access Journal through the out

band mode on XP12000K/XP10000 arrays. For details on the arrays supporting XP Thin Provisioning

(THP), Snapshot and Continuous Access Journal, see

Appendix D

.

NOTE:

To configure data collection on a Windows system, see

Appendix C

.

To start collecting configuration data on a command device, complete the following steps:

1.

Select the command device(s), by selecting one or more rows from the list box for which you want

to collect data.

2.

Select Collect Configuration Data.

3.

Select In Band or Out Band.
In the in band mode, only one host can collect configuration data per array.
In the out band mode, you must specify the IP address of the array in the Array IP Address box. You

cannot select multiple arrays in the out band mode.

4.

Click Submit.
Configuration data collection starts on the selected command device.

NOTE:

Configuration changes made to the array are not automatically reflected. You must perform configuration

data collection to get the latest configuration data.

NOTE:

Performance data collection schedules are based on the mode in which configuration data is collected. If

you have collected configuration data in the in band mode, the performance data collection schedules

are based on the in band mode. If you want to change the configuration data collection mode to out

band, you must delete the performance data collection schedules set and create new schedules for the

out band mode.
