NOTE:

XP Continuous Access S-VOLs cannot be accessed by any UNIX/PC server host unless

the pair is split.

XP Business Copy (BC). BC volumes can be assigned to XP Continuous Access pairs, and XP
Continuous Access volumes can be assigned to BC pairs. See

“Combining XP Continuous

Access and XP Business Copy” (page 42)

for more information.

HP recommends BC for intra-disk array copy operations. If BC is not installed, you can use
XP Continuous Access (Synchronous only) to copy within the same disk array. This configuration
requires at least one external fibre cable.

XP Performance Control. Initiator ports in the MCU do not support the XP Performance Control
WWN option.

Combining XP Continuous Access and Auto LUN XP

Auto LUN XP provides detailed information about I/O activity and hardware performance of local
disk arrays. Use Auto LUN XP to monitor local disk arrays performing XP Continuous Access
operations. Use disk array usage and performance data that Auto LUN XP collects and displays
to:

Identify optimum times to perform XP Continuous Access data duplexing operations (for
example, during periods of light system I/O activity)

Determine the best locations for XP Continuous Access S-VOLs (for example, in parity groups
with less frequently accessed volumes to avoid bottlenecks of backend activity)

Monitor subsystem performance during XP Continuous Access operations and testing activities

Auto LUN XP data collection does not affect disk array operations in any way. However, Auto
LUN XP data collection can cause a significant amount of traffic on a local disk array's internal
LAN, especially when Auto LUN XP collects large volumes of LDEV data. To prevent timeouts from
occurring during XP Continuous Access (or other) operations on the XP Command View Advanced
Edition management station or XP Remote Web Console, decrease the Auto LUN XP data collection
activities before using XP Continuous Access. This reduces traffic on the local disk array's internal
LAN, so inquiries and commands that the XP Command View Advanced Edition management
station or XP Remote Web Console issues are processed more quickly.

For more information about Auto LUN XP, see the HP StorageWorks Auto LUN XP user guide for
the XP12000/XP10000
.

To perform XP Continuous Access (or other) operations while Auto LUN XP is collecting data for
one or more disk arrays on the same local disk array's internal LAN:

1.

If Auto LUN XP is collecting large volumes of LDEV data, consider disabling Auto LUN XP
LDEV data collection for one or more disk arrays before using XP Command View Advanced
Edition or XP Remote Web Console. See the HP StorageWorks Auto LUN XP user guide for
the XP12000/XP10000
for instructions.

2.

If Auto LUN XP is collecting data for more than three disk arrays on the local disk array's
internal LAN, consider disconnecting Auto LUN XP from one or more disk arrays before using
XP Command View Advanced Edition or XP Remote Web Console. See the HP StorageWorks
Auto LUN XP user guide for the XP12000/XP10000
for instructions.

3.

After you disable LDEV data collection and/or disconnected Auto LUN XP, you can use XP
Command View Advanced Edition or XP Remote Web Console to connect to the disk array,
launch XP Continuous Access, and perform XP Continuous Access operations (for example,
create pairs and view pair status).

4.

When you are finished performing XP Continuous Access operations, exit XP Continuous
Access, and disconnect the XP Command View Advanced Edition or XP Remote Web Console
from the disk array.
