If encryption has been set in the parity group, encryption formatting is executed before user data is
written there. If encryption is released, regular formatting is executed before user data is written there.

Encryption formatting can be executed only if all the volumes that belong to a parity group can be
formatted. If there are any volumes that cannot be formatted, encryption formatting cannot be executed.

Encrypting existing data

To encrypt existing data, create a parity group, set encryption there in advance, and migrate the data
using HP StorageWorks XP Auto LUN Software or by using a program product for copying data, such
as HP StorageWorks XP Business Copy Software or HP StorageWorks XP Continuous Access Software.
Data migration must be performed per LDEV.

For information on data migration using XP Auto LUN, see the HP StorageWorks XP24000/XP20000
Auto LUN Software User's Guide
.

For information on data migration using a program product for copying the data, see the manual of
the corresponding program product.

Defining encryption status

In the XP Remote Web Console, use the LDEV dialog box in the Reports Display dialog boxes to define
the encryption status of the LDEV.

In Virtual LVI / LUN, use the VLL window to define the encryption status of the parity group. In addition,
if DKA Encryption License Key is installed, you can specify the volume whose data to encrypt, by the
parity group, by clicking the Encryption button on the VLL window. For the details of the VLL window,
see

VLL window

, page 16.

If the LDEV is an external volume, a virtual volume for HP StorageWorks XP Snapshot Software, a
virtual volume for HP StorageWorks XP Thin Provisioning Software or a LUSE volume, the encryption
status is shown as a hyphen (-).
