xtension jambs for vinyl patio doors attach to the rough opening from the

interior after the door has been secured to the rough opening. The extension jambs
overlap the frame (fig. 1), extending the door width to fit a 4

9/16"

or 6

9/16"

wall

(double or single-shear). Because the extensions are a replacement for a drywall
return, they must be installed before the sheet rock.

Preparation

Verify the correct length. The head extension jamb should be the length of the door
frame header +

1/4"

. The side extension jambs will butt up to the head and should be

1/8"

shorter than the length of the door frame side jambs. Cut the extension jambs to

length.

Installation

1

Install the patio door according to the instructions attached to the product

2

The extension jambs will fit between the rough opening and the frame; notch the
extension jambs to fit around the shims as needed (fig. 2)

3

Slip one side extension jamb between the frame and the rough opening; slide it
against the door frame, flush with the top of the door frame

4

Secure the side extension jamb to the trimmer (or jack) stud with nails 1" from each end and every 12" in between
(fig. 3)

5

Install the opposite side extension jamb, then the head extension jamb (fig.4); head extension jamb should rest on
top of the door frame and evenly overhang both side extension jambs
