GLASS CALIBRATION CYLINDERS

Operating Instructions:

Install the calibration cylinder in the suction line to the chemical metering pump. Ensure that the cylinder is

vertical. Two (2) isolating ball valves must be install in the suction line as per the drawing below. The top of the cylinder
should be vented back to the top of the chemical container or to drain. A 12” length of flexable hose should be install on
the top of the cylinder if it is to be hard piped into the system.

There are two (2) methods of using the calibration cylinder, measuring volume or rate of flow. Before starting the
calibration make sure the pump is primed.

Method 1 - Rate of Flow: (Using the USGPH scale)

Open isolating valves 1 and 2 to fill the cylinder
to the top mark on the scale. (0 USGPH)

Close isolating valve (1) in the suction line.
Leave isolating valve (2) open.

Switch on the chemical feed pump for 30
seconds. Switch off the pump.
The reading in the right side of the cylinder is a
direct readout in USGPH.

If the reading is not the desired rate of flow
adjust the pump volume and repeat the
process until the correct rate of flow is
achieved.

Method 2 – Volumetric: (Using the mL Scale)

Open isolating valves 1 and 2 to fill the cylinder
to the top mark on the scale. (0 mL )

Close isolating valve (1) in the suction line.
Leave isolating valve (2) open.

Switch on the chemical feed pump for a
measured drawdown time. Shut off the pump.
The volume displaced from the cylinder can be
read on the left side the cylinder scale in mL.

If the reading is not the desired rate of flow
adjust the pump volume and repeat the
process until the correct rate of flow is
achieved.

To convert to LPH or GPH use one of the
follow two formulas
LPH = (volume÷drawdown time) x 3.6
GPH = (volume÷drawdown time) x 0.952

Once the desired pump dosing volume has been set close isolating valve (2) and open isolation valve (1) to resume
normal pumping operation.

Note: Maximum sealed cylinder pressure is 15 feet of water column.
