MAINTENANCE

CENTER SECTION INBOARD BEARING REPLACEMENT

1.

Lift cutter unit to maximum horizontal height; then, securely support ends of cutter housing.

2.

Remove enough knives to place a floor jack under center of cuttershaft.

3.

Securely support cuttershaft. IMPORTANT: The cuttershaft must remain supported while changing
bearings. NOTE: Steps 4, 5, & 6 are for rear head only.

4.

Remove Belt Guard.

5.

Remove spring from idler arm.

6.

Remove extension shaft housing mounting bracket fasteners at the cutterhousing. Pivot mounting
bracket assembly and remove drive belt.

7.

Remove fasteners that secure pulley or driveline flange to cuttershaft. Remove pulley or driveline flange
and key.

8.

Remove fasteners securing inboard bearing and housing assembly to cutterhousing; then, remove
bearing and housing assembly.

NOTE: There are two tapped holes in the housing which can be used to pull bearing and housing assembly out
by using special tool No. 701627.
9.

Using a jack to hold cuttershaft in proper alignment, install inboard bearing and housing assembly to
cutter unit. Grease bearing and instal cap over fitting.

NOTE: Make sure grease is getting into bearing.
10.

Reinstall key and pulley. Secure with cuttershaft fasteners.

11.

Remove jack and check shaft rotation. Reinstall knives which were removed.

12.

Reinstall drive belts then secure motor mounting bracket to cutterhousing.

13.

Reinstall idler arm spring.

14.

Reinstall belt guard.

15.

Remove supports, lower unit to ground and test unit.
