MAINTENANCE

CUTTERSHAFT REPLACEMENT

NOTE: It is recommended that cuttershaft bearing and housing assemblies be replaced when replacing
cuttershaft.
1. Place unit on the ground or securely support at

a convenient height.

2. Remove cuttershaft bearing and housing

assemblies as in Cuttershaft Bearing
Replacement. After removing both assemblies,
the cuttershaft can be removed and a new one
installed. It may be necessary to remove two
sets of knives nearest the drive end of
cuttershaft.

3. Install new bearing and housing assemblies.
NOTE: Lube hole in bearing outer race must align
with hole in housing. Outboard bearing cannot be
used on inboard side. Set screws are not required
for Inboard Bearing.

CUTTER KNIVES

Cutter knives are attached to the cutter shaft with hardened knife pins and cotter pins. These pins are supplied
with the knife kit. To replace existing knives, remove and discard used pins and install new knives using new
pins. Knife pins must be installed in certain direction to locate cotter pins where knives will not reach them
when flexing backward. After installing cotter pins, bend extended prong at a 45 degree angle.
FOR FORWARD ROTATION: On the right wing and center unit, all knife pins must be installed with their heads
facing away form the cuttershaft pulley. On the left wing, the heads of the knife pins must face the cuttershaft
pulley.
FOR REVERSE ROTATION: On the right wing and center unit, all knife pins must be installed with their heads
facing toward the cuttershaft pulley. On the left wing, the heads of the knife pins must face away from the
cuttershaft pulley.
