Recording Movies

Rotate the mode dial to

and turn the cam-

era on
The exposure count display shows the maximum
total length of the movie that can be recorded.

Start recording

Press the shutter-release button all the way down
to start recording. The

icon will blink and

progress will be shown by an indicator at the bot-
tom of the display.

End recording

Press the shutter-release button all the way down
a second time to end recording. Recording will
end automatically when the internal memory or
memory card is full.

Zoom

Optical zoom can not be adjusted during recording. Digital zoom (maximum 2 ×) can
be used at any time, both before and during recording.

Movies

During recording, do not touch the built-in microphone. To prevent the sound of the
camera focusing from interfering with recording, select a focus mode of Single AF.

The fl ash turns off ( ) automatically when movie mode is selected (

38). The self-

timer (

40) and exposure compensation (

42) can not be used.

The progress indicator stops at 999 s. Recording can continue past this point if enough
memory is available.

Movies are recorded as QuickTime movie fi les with the extension “.MOV” and names
consisting of “DSCN” plus a four-digit fi le number assigned by adding one to the high-
est fi le number in the current folder (e.g., “DSCN0015.MOV”). Movies can be played
back on a computer after transfer.
