1-22 Power Switch and Energy Save Mode

<Energy Save> and Energy Save Mode

When the machine has been idle for a long period of time, the energy save mode will

activate to reduce power consumption. The energy save mode consists of the “low power

mode” and the “sleep mode”, which further reduces power consumption. Use <Energy

Save> to activate or cancel the energy save mode.

Low Power Mode

When <Energy Save> is pressed, the touch panel display and the various lamps are

turned off and the printer enters a dormant state (the low power mode) to reduce power

consumption.

If the machine is not used for one minute, it will automatically enter the low power

mode. This value can be changed in <Setting>  [Default Settings]  [Energy Save

Mode]  [Low Power Mode].

<Energy Save> illuminates green while the machine is in the low power mode.

If a key is pressed while in the low power mode, the machine will return to the normal

ready state.

Sleep Mode Setting

Press and hold <Energy Save> for three seconds to make the machine enter the sleep

mode.

If the machine is not used for one minute in the low power mode, it will automatically

enter the sleep mode. This value can be changed in <Setting>  [Default Settings] 

[Energy Save Mode]  [Sleep Mode].

When in the sleep mode, all power is turned OFF, but documents scanned into memory

can be transmitted and received documents can be printed.

<Energy Save> illuminates red while the machine is in the sleep mode.

If <Energy Save> is pressed while in the sleep mode, the machine will return to the

normal ready state.

Note

The energy save mode does not activate if the machine runs out of paper, a printing

error such as a paper jam has occurred, or when paper in the bypass tray runs out

while performing bypass copying.

The time to cancel, or start, the energy save mode can be set. For details, refer to

Chapter 1, “Specifying Default Settings” in the Administrator's Guide.

When you are using the machine while logged in, the machine will not enter the

sleep mode. Also, the <Login> button does not go out when the machine is in the low

power mode. The <Personal Mode> button does not go out when using the machine

with personal settings.
