Connecting SCSI devices

A SCSI device is any product—including hard disk drives, CD-ROM drives,
scanners, and printers—that connects with your computer by means of a
standard electronic interface called the

Small Computer System Interface

(SCSI).

You can attach up to six SCSI devices to your computer by linking them
together in a chain that starts at your PowerBook’s SCSI port. The SCSI port
looks like this:

To connect a SCSI device to the SCSI port on your PowerBook, you need an
Apple HDI-30 SCSI System Cable.

Connecting SCSI devices to your PowerBook may involve these steps:

m installing software
m setting SCSI ID numbers
m checking that the SCSI chain is properly terminated
m connecting cables

These steps are described in the following sections.

Installing software

Most SCSI devices require software that allows your computer to
communicate with them. This software is called a driver. To install a driver,
follow the instructions that came with the device.
