1. Welcome

Thank you for purchasing IOGEAR's USB 2.0 Fast Ethernet 10/100BT
Adapter. IOGEAR brings the cutting edge technology of USB 2.0 to
your PC compatible computer. You will enjoy the convenience and
enhanced speed that have made this technology an industry standard.

Your order has been carefully packaged and inspected, and we hope you are pleased with the
IOGEAR product you purchased. Please inspect the contents of the package to ensure that you

3. Hardware Installation

Hardware Installation
Please take all proper Electro Static Discharge (ESD) precautions during the installation of your
new hardware.

• Installing the IOGEAR USB 2.0 Fast Ethernet adapter
a) Make sure your computer is powered up and that you are at the Windows Desktop.
b) Before you begin, make sure the USB 2.0 Fast Ethernet Adapter is disconnected from the
network
c) Disable any network interface card (NIC) presently installed on your system.
1. Open the “Device Manager” by clicking “Start”, “Settings”, “Control Panel.”
2. Check on the plus (+) sign next to “Network adapters.”
3. Find the network interface card in the list and double click on it.
4. Go to the “device usage” section and disable the device in the hardware profile.
5. Click the “OK” button to complete the un-installation.
d) Plug in the RJ-45 receptacle to your USB 2.0 Fast Ethernet adapter to the LAN connection.

4. Software Installation

Software Installation

• Installing the IOGEAR USB 2.0 Fast Ethernet Adapter software
a) Open the “Device Manager” by clicking “Start”, “Settings”, “Control Panel”.
b) Look under “Universal Serial Bus controllers” and check if there is a “PCI to USB Enhanced
Controller” in the list. It is essential to ensure that your system will support the USB 2.0
specification.
c) Make the connection by plugging the USB 2.0 Fast Ethernet adapter into your computers’
USB 2.0 port or the USB 2.0 hubs’ port.
d) Plug in the RJ-45 receptacle to the LAN cable. Then click the “OK” button.
e) When the dialog box “Add New Hardware Wizard” is displayed, click “Next” button.
f) In the next dialog box displayed, select “Search for the best driver for your device” and click the
“Next” button.
g) Put the supplied CD disk into your CD ROM drive if it is not already loaded. In the next dialog
box select “Specify a location.” In the drop down box click “Browse” and select your CD ROM
drive letter. Once selected click on the “Next” button.
h) The next dialog box should display “ASIX AX88172 USB 2.0 to Fast Ethernet Adapter.”
Windows is ready to install the driver.
I) Replace the driver CD ROM in your CD ROM drive with your operating system CD ROM
when prompted and click “OK.”
i) Specify the CD ROM drive letter when prompted, and click “OK” button.
k) Replace your operating system CD ROM with the USB 2.0 Fast Ethernet driver CD when
prompted and click “OK” button.
l) Windows has finished installing the driver software. Click “Finish” to close the Hardware
Wizard.
m) To complete the Systems Settings change, restart the computer by clicking “Yes” button in
dialog box when prompted “Do you want to restart computer now?”
n) Open the “Device Manager” by clicking “Start”, “Settings”, “Control Panel.”
o) Look under “Network adapters” to verify installation. Check if there is an “ASIX AX88172 USB
2.0 to Fast Ethernet Adapter” in the list. The USB 2.0 Fast Ethernet software has been
successfully installed.
