Connection to Power
a. Check that the power switch to the printer is turned OFF.
b. Connect the power cord to the power cord inlet on the printer.
c. Insert the printers mains plug into a suitably located mains socket.
d. The power switch is located in the recess below the control panel on the front of the
printer, so that it is easy to access when the printer is installed.

On your choice of a Tally Dascom label printer.
Please take a moment to read this Quick Start Guide which will familiarise yourself with the
printer and its operation. The printer is a sophisticated but easy-to-use label printer featuring
simple media loading and quick connection together with a menu configuration systems
displayed on the LCD panel.
We will guide you through unpacking the printer from its carton, connection to your
computer system and installation of the media including a quick self-test of the printer to
ensure it is working.
Safety
If you have not done so already, please carefully read the safety instructions included at the
beginning of this Quick Start Guide and in more detail on the user manual included on the
CD-ROM. Failure to observe the safety precautions could cause serious injury or damage to
both you and your property.
Unpacking Your Printer
a. Carefully unpack your new printer and ensure all the items shown on the adjacent picture
are present in your printer's carton. Remember that the printer itself can weigh up to 18 kg
(39 lbs) so ensure you lift the printer out of the box carefully with the assistance of another
person.
b. In some cases, your supplier or Tally Dascom may have added extra items required for your
particular installation such as additional CD-ROM, cable or manuals. Instructions for each
of these items will be included within the individual packages.
c. If you have any questions, or if you find any of the items are missing, please initially refer
back to your supplier. Otherwise, contact details for Tally Dascom’s regional offices are
shown on the back page of this Quick Start Guide.
d. The printer is shipped with adhesive tape in place to hold the top cover closed. Simple
remove the tape and open the case by lifting the top cover upwards and back.
e. There is another strip of adhesive tape that must be removed which holds the mechanism
closed for shipping. Remove the tape and attached paper by carefully peeling from the
case. A further piece of packing paper is inside the mechanism. You can remove this when
the head is opened for the first time (as shown in section 3b).
Connection to a Computer
This product has three interfaces that can be used to receive printing data: a serial port
(RS232C), parallel port (IEEE1284), and a USB port (USB1.1). An optional internal Ethernet
(LAN) or Wireless LAN port can be added by your dealer. If the optional Ethernet or wireless
LAN port is used, the standard parallel and USB ports are removed from the printer, so the
parallel interface cannot be used.
With the exception of a wireless LAN connection, an interface cable is necessary to connect
the printer to a computer. To connect the cable, proceed as follows:
a. Turn OFF the power switches of both the printer and the computer.
b. Connect one end of the interface cable to the interface connector on the back of the
printer and secure it with locks or locking screws, where available.
c. Connect the other end of the interface cable to the interface connector on the computer
and secure it with locks or locking screws, where available.
Caution
Use an AC outlet that accepts a three-pronged plug.
Otherwise, static electricity may be generated and there
will be danger of electric shock.

1. R ead all of these instructions and sa ve them f or later r efer ence.
2. F ollow all w arnings and instruc tions marked on the pr oduct.
3. Unplug this pr oduct fr om the wall outlet bef ore cleaning. D o not use liquid or aer osol cleaners , thinner , tr ichloroeth ylene, benzine ,
ketone or similar chemicals . Inst ead use a damp cloth for cleaning , when the prin ter is disc onnected fr om the mains supply.
4. D o not use this produc t near wat er or where a chemical reac tion can occur such as in a laborat ory or wher e ther e is a lot of oil , dust ,
salt or iron par ticles.
5. D o not place this pr oduct on an unstable car t, stand or table . The produc t ma y fall , causing serious damage to the pr oduct and
people around it .
6. Slots and openings on the cabinet and the back or bott om are pr ovided f or ven tilation.
7. T o ensur e reliable operation of the produc t and to prot ect it from over heating , do not block or co ver these openings . The openings
should nev er be blocked b y placing the pr oduct on a bed, sofa, rug or other similar surfac e. T his pr oduct should nev er be placed
near or over a radia tor or hea t sour ce. This produc t should not be placed in a built-in installation unless pr oper v entila tion is
provided .
8. T his pr oduct should be operat ed fr om the type of po wer source indicated on the marking label. I f you are not sur e of the type of
pow er available , consult y our dealer or local pow er compan y.
9. T his pr oduct is equipped with a thr ee-pr onged plug , a plug ha ving a third grounding pin. This plug will only fit into a gr ounding-type
pow er outlet . This is a safet y fea ture. If y ou ar e unable to insert the plug into the outlet , con tact your electr ician to replac e your
obsolete outlet . Do not def eat the saf ety pur pose of the grounding-t ype plug.
10. D o not allow anything to rest on the pow er cor d. D o not locate this pr oduct wher e the cor d will be w alked on. Do not pull on the
pow er cor d or data cables or keep them under t ension.
11. If an ex tension cor d is used with this pr oduct, make sur e tha t the total of the ampere ratings on the produc ts plugged into the
ext ension cor d do not ex ceed the ex tension cor d amper e ra ting. A lso, make sure that the total of all produc ts plugged into the w all
outlet does not exc eed 7.5 amperes f or 220/240V outlet and 15 amperes f or a 120V outlet.
12. Nev er push objects of an y kind in to this pr oduct thr ough cabinet slots as they may t ouch dangerous v oltage points or shor t out parts
that c ould result in a r isk of fire or elec tric shock . Never spill liquid of an y kind on the pr oduct.
13. Ex cept as explained elsewhere in this manual, don 't a ttempt to servic e or disassemble this produc t yourself . Opening and remo ving
those co vers that ar e mar ked ÒD o Not Remo veÓ may expose you to dangerous voltage points or other risks . Ref er all servicing on
those compar tments t o servic e personnel.
14. T he mains plug on this equipmen t must be used to disconnec t mains pow er. P lease ensur e tha t the socket outlet is installed near the
equipment and shall be easily ac cessible .
15. Unplug this pr oduct fr om the wall outlet and r efer ser vicing to qualified ser vice personnel under the f ollowing c onditions:
a. W hen the pow er cor d or plug is damaged or fray ed.
b. I f liquid, aer osol chemicals or other chemicals have been spilled in to the pr oduct.
c. I f the produc t has been exposed t o rain or w ater or e xcessiv e humidity.
d. I f the produc t does not oper ate normally when the operating instructions are follo wed . Adjust only those con trols that ar e co ver ed
by the oper ating instructions since improper adjustment of other con trols may result in damage and will often requir e ex tensiv e
wor k by a qualified t echnician to r estor e the produc t to nor mal operation.
e. I f the produc t has been dropped or k nocked or the cabinet has been damaged.
f. If the pr oduct e xhibits a distinct change in per for mance, indica ting a need for ser vice.
16. Discar d or safely stor e the plastic pack ing bag . This bag should be kept aw ay from children. If the bag is pulled ov er child's head, it
may cause suff ocation.
17. M ake sure if y ou open the top c over , it is opened all the way . If only par tially open, the cov er could slam shut , possibly causing injury.
18. W hen the cov er is open, be careful of the c orners of c over . They c ould cause injury.
19. D o not open the prin ter dur ing prin ting.
20. Oper ate the con trol panel pr operly . A careless , rough handling ma y cause problems or malfunc tion. D o not use such sharp- edged
tool as a ballpoin t for oper ation.
21. f a pr oblem occurs dur ing prin ting, st op the prin ter immedia tely and unplug the po wer c ord fr om the outlet.
22. T he con ten ts of this manual may be changed without pr ior notice.
