Step 1:

Remove existing siding. If underlying building paper or

housewrap is damaged, install a new layer of GreenGuard

®

Building Wrap, following the applicable installation guidelines

for the product used.

Step 2: Install GreenGuard

®

Flashing or other equivalent self-

adhering flashing around all window and door openings. The

flashing is installed by removing the paper release liner and

then applying the sill flashing first so that the flashing is

aligned with the bottom of the window and extends at least

6 inches past the window on each side. Next, install the

jamb flashing pieces along each side of the window so that

they overlap the sill flashing by at least 6 inches and extend

above the head of the window by at least 6 inches. At the

top of the window, make two 6-inch diagonal cuts in the

building wrap and fold the flap up to expose the underlying

sheathing. Install a drip cap at the head of the window. Then,

install the head flashing piece last so that it overlaps the

vertical leg of the drip cap. Install the head flashing piece

so that it extends at least 6 inches past the window on each

side. Fold the building wrap down over the head flashing and

seal the diagonal cuts using GreenGuard

®

Contractor Tape or

equivalent tape.

Step 3:

Starting at a corner of the house, install the first, lower course

of GreenGuard

®

DC14 so that the bottom of the sheet is

aligned with the bottom of the sill plate.

Step 4: C

ontinue unfolding the GreenGuard

®

DC14 bundle and attach

the sheet to the wall using common roofing nails spaced

approximately 2 feet apart along vertical framing member

locations. If GreenGuard

®

DC14 is installed over wood

structural sheathing, then the wood sheathing can be used as

a nail base. If installing GreenGuard

®

DC14 over foam plastic

insulative sheathing, then fasteners must penetrate through the

foam sheathing to the underlying framing member. Fasteners

must penetrate the wood sheathing or framing member a

minimum of ½ inch.

Step 5:

Trim the GreenGuard

®

DC14 to fit closely around all existing

windows and doors. Also, trim closely around all wall

penetrations, such as electrical boxes, mounting boxes, pipes,

etc.

Step 6:

Install upper courses of GreenGuard

®

DC14 so that the upper

courses overlap the flat edge of the lower course by 2 inche

s.

Step 7:

Install the exterior siding or cladding in accordance with the

manufacturer’s installation guidelines.

GreenGuard

®

Fanfold Siding Underlayments are extruded

polystyrene products that can be used as water-resistive barriers in

lieu of housewraps and building paper. The GreenGuard

®

Fanfold

Siding Underlayments are recognized for use as water-resistive

barriers in ICC Evaluation Services Report ESR-2136 when they are

installed in accordance with the following guidelines:

Residing Applications Over Existing Siding

When installing GreenGuard

®

Fanfold Siding Underlayments over an

existing exterior wall in which the existing cladding will not be

removed, the existing wall assembly is already providing weather

protection. Since there are no code provisions that require that an

additional WRB be installed over an existing wall, the GreenGuard

®

Fanfold Siding Underlayment can be installed using steps 1

through 3 as described on the next page.

New Construction Applications or Residing Applications After

Removal of Existing Siding

I

n new construction applications or residing applications where

there is no housewrap or building paper covering the wood

sheathing, GreenGuard

®

Fanfold Siding Underlayments can be used

in lieu of the code-required WRB when they are installed as follows:
