1.

Fill test tube (0778) to 10 mL line with sample water.

2.

Adjust pH to read between 7 and 10 using a pH meter or Indicator
Sticks to determine pH.

3.

Add three drops of *Chloride Reagent A (4069). Cap and swirl to
mix. A yellow color will develop.

4.

Fill Direct Reading Titrator (0380) with *Chloride Reagent B
(4070). Insert Titrator into center hole of test tube cap.

5.

While gently swirling tube, slowly press plunger until yellow color
changes to orangish brown. Read test result in ppm Chloride where
plunger tip meets titrator scale.

6.

If plunger tip reaches the bottom line on titrator scale (50 ppm)
before color change occurs, refill Titrator and continue titration.
When recording test result, be sure to include original amount of
reagent dispensed (50 ppm).

7.

Parts per million chloride test result may be converted to grains per
gallon (gpg) Chloride:

gpg Chloride = ppm Chloride x 0.058
