Taskbar

The taskbar contains the

Start

button on the left and the

notification area

on the right. When you open a program, a button for that program appears on the

taskbar. You can click the buttons to move between open programs. If the taskbar runs out of space, the Microsoft® Windows® XP operating system groups
multiple instances of the same program on a single taskbar button.

You can add toolbars to the taskbar to provide quick access to programs or links. To add or remove toolbars, including Quick Launch and Links:

1.

Right-click an empty spot on the taskbar and point to Toolbars.

2.

Click the toolbar that you want to add or remove.

Notification Area

The notification area contains icons that provide quick access to utilities and computer functions, such as the computer clock and printer status. The Microsoft®

Windows® XP operating system hides notification area icons that are not frequently used. Click the

icon to view hidden icons.

To prevent Windows XP from hiding your notification area icons:

1.

Right-click an empty spot on the taskbar and click Properties.

2.

Ensure that Hide inactive icons is not checked.
