To function properly,

LumiView

TM

must be adjusted to fit you.

Thank you for purchasing the Welch Allyn LumiView

TM

Binocular Headlight. Your LumiView

TM

Binocular Headlight

is designed for adjustment specifically for your Interpupillary Distance (IPD) and other facial anatomy. To insure that
device is properly adjusted please follow these simple steps:

1.

INTERPUPILLARY DISTANCE (IPD) ADJUSTMENT USING A TARGET:

Located below each eyepiece is an IPD adjustment slide and screened reference.

Once the battery pack is charged, connect the instrument power cord and switch the lamp on. Draw a single point on
paper and look through the optical system at the single point from a distance of 16 to 20 inches. Close one eye and
move the IP adjustment slide until the point is in the center of your optical field. Without moving your head, repeat
the procedure with the other eye. Once completed, stare at the point with both eyes open, allowing the image to fuse
into fall stereo vision.

It may take a few seconds, and some practice, for the image to merge into a single stereoscopic view. It helps if you
practice by looking into a small cavity, like a pen cap, to become comfortable with the image fusion.

CHECK IPD ADJUSTMENT USING A MIRROR:

As a visual check of alignment, look at your own eyes in the mirror through the LumiView

TM

Binocular Headlight with the LumiView

TM

lamp off. Check to see that each eye is centered in

the square optical area just below the lamp reflector. If the optics appear too high or too low,
follow the instructions below. Use this process as a simple and quick daily check of the IPD
adjustment (See diagram !).

2.

HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT:

With the lamp on and the IPD adjusted, look at a point 16 to 20 inches distant. If the
light is centered and surrounding the point, the height adjustment is correct (the fac-
tory setting is accurate 75% of the time).

If the light is BENEATH the point, move the optics DOWNWARD by loosening the
adjustment screw (A) and sliding the optics down in the adjustment track. Re-tighten
the screw and check the height adjustment as shown in previous paragraph.

If the light is ABOVE the point, move the optics UPWARD by loosening the adjust-
ment screw (A) and sliding the optics up in the adjustment track. Re-tighten the
screw and check the height adjustment as shown above.

If the LumiView

TM

(spectacle version) cannot be adjusted to center and surround the

illumination point 16 to 20 inches distant, the adjustment required for your anatomy is outside the range of the adjust-
ment slot. If this is the case, some adjustment of the nosepads (B) or temple bars (C) may be necessary. Please contact
your local optician to make these adjustments - using this sheet as a guide. Should you require optical correction, an
optician can also insert prescription lenses in the LumiView

TM

spectacle version.

Reconfirm the IPD alignment by looking in a mirror with the LumiView

TM

lamp off. Your eyes should be centered,

both horizontally and vertically, in each optical area. The LumiView

TM

Binocular Headlight is now ready for use. No

further adjustment is needed.
