Running the Dell IDE Hard Drive Diagnostics

The Dell IDE Hard Drive Diagnosties is a utility that tests the hard drive to

troubleshoot or eonfirm a hard drive failure.

1 Turn on your eomputer (if your eomputer is already on, restart it).

2 When

F2 = Setup

appears in the upper-right eorner of the sereen,

press <CtrlxAlt><D>.

3 Follow the instruetions on the sereen.

If a failure is reported, see “Hard Drive Problems” in your User’s Guide.

When Working Inside Your Computer

Before you remove the eomputer eover, perform the following steps in the
sequenee indieated.

Always follow installation and service instructions closely.

/t\ CAUTION: There is a d a n g e r of a new battery exploding if it is

incorrectly installed. Replace the battery o n l y with the same or

equivalent type recommended by the manufacturer. Discard used
batteries according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

1 Turn off your eomputer and any peripherals.

2 Ground yourself by touehing an unpainted metal surfaee on the

ehassis, sueh as the metal around the eard-slot openings at the baek of
the eomputer, before touehing anything inside your eomputer.

While you work, periodieally toueh an unpainted metal surfaee on the
eomputer ehassis to dissipate any statie eleetrieity that might harm
internal eomponents.
