Changing the initial settings

The initial settings (factory settings) can be changed. For example, the audio soundtrack

language can be changed to French by changing the setting at “1 Disc Languages".
(The settings will be retained in memory, until the settings are changed, even after turning

the power off.)

Press ACTION or MENU in the

stop mode.

• In the case of the main unit, press MENU.

(The initial settings screen is displayed.)

Select the preferred item by pressing A ▼ and press SELECT.

• In the case of the main unit, select the item using the joystick.

1 Disc Languages

This is to select the audio soundtrack language, subtitle language and the language used

in the menus. (If the language selected is not available on the disc, the language

designated by each disc will be selected.)

2 Ratings

(See page 54)

This is to disable the playing of DVDs which are unsuitable for children. Some discs may

not be encoded with specific rating level information though its disc jacket says that it is for

"adults”. For those discs, the age restriction will not work. It is possible to prohibit playback
of all DVDs.

3 Menu Language

This is to select the language used for the initial settings screen or for On-Screen Display

messages such as “Play”.

4 On-Screen Messages

This is to select whether On-Screen Display messages such as “Play” will be displayed or

not.

5 TV Aspect

(See page 59)

This is to select the appropriate TV aspect (4:3 or 16:9) according to the connected TV set.

Digital Audio Output

This is to select the audio type to be output from the audio output/optical digital audio
output connector.

This is to make other settings such as dynamic range compression.

For your reference:

•The numeric buttons can also be used for

selecting the items. (In this case, pressing

SELECT is not necessary.)

•When the MENU button of the remote control

unit is pressed during play, the DVD menu will
be displayed and If pressed in the stop mode,

the initial settings screen will be displayed.

Notes:

•There are no No. 7 and 8 items of the initial

setting in this player.

•After the player is set to the “Lock AN” setting in

“2 Ratings”, none of the initial settings, includ­
ing “2 Rating^, can be changed if the DVD disc is

left inside the player. In this case, remove the
disc, and unlock the player.
