The AN-S9 is a passive device, designed to convert the mainly current output of your
Moving Coil cartridge (MC) to a higher voltage, low current signal of sufficient
strength to allow a Moving Magnet (MM) phonostage to amplify it to a suitable level.

The internal transformers used in the AN-S9 are manufactured by Audio Note (UK)
exclusively, use the finest possible core materials, silver wire and winding technology
available today, and are housed in mumetal screening canisters to minimize noise
and interference.
Additionally, they are securely mounted inside the chassis with a custom designed
and manufactured one-piece copper collar.

The AN-S9 can be custom specified at the Factory to match the requirements of
most high quality, low output moving coil cartridges, and can be supplied with RCA /
Phono inputs or XLR sockets if required. In standard form, it can be supplied in the
following versions: -

AN-S9/L

3 Ohms input impedance, primarily designed to partner the Audio

Note IO Moving Coil cartridges (1 Ohm internal impedance).

AN-S9/M

12 Ohms input impedance, for cartridges with an internal impedance

of 3 to 4 Ohms.

AN-S9/H

60 Ohms input impedance, for cartridges with an internal impedance

of 15 to 20 Ohms.

Rather than using the conventional RCA / Phono socket method for connecting the
output of the AN-S9 to the following Moving Magnet Phonostage, we decided to ‘hard
wire’ a pair of our PALLAS interconnect cables directly to the output secondaries of
the internal transformers. PALLAS was chosen for its inherently low capacitance; for
XLR output configuration, we chose our SOOTTO cable.
