Mains adapter
The voltage of the 3V adapter must match with the local mains voltage.
The 3.5mm adapter plug's 1.3mm centre pin must also be connected to
the minus pole ©.
• Connect the mains adapter to the set's DC 3V socket.
• Always disconnect the mains adapter if you are not using it.
Battery (optional)
• Open the battery door and insert two alkaline batteries, type R6,
UM3 or AA as indicated.
• Remove the batteries from the set if they are exhausted or not to be
used for a long time. Use of PhiUps POWER LIFE batteries
gives up to 18 hours of cassette playback.
- It may be necessary to reprogram your PRESET stations.
- The ВАТТ power indicator will not light up or only dimly if the
battery supply is low.

1. Set the TAPE/RADIO to RADIO.
- The ВАТТ power indicator lights up.
Z Connect the headphones to the 0 socket
3. To select your AM or FM waveband, press BAND.

STEREO
appears on the display when you are receiving a FM
stereo transmission.
4. Select your station by pressing the PRESET buttons or by using the
TUNING controls -or +.
To improve reception;
FM: The headphone cord functions as the FM-antenna. Extend it
fully and position the cord.
AM: Uses the built-in antenna. Turn the set to find the best
position.
5. Adjust the sound with VOLUME and DBB (bass) controls.
6. To turn off radio, set TAPE/RADIO to TAPE.
/Vote: 9/10 kHz AM tuning step (not all versions)
In North and South America the frequency step between adjacent AM
band channels is 10kHz. In the rest of the world this step is 9 kHz.
Usually the frequency step has been preset in the factory for your area.
Tuning
1. Press and hold down TUNING - or + briefly, releasing the button
when the frequency on the display changes rapidly.
- The tuning TUN LEO indicator lights up when a station is
detected and you will be able to hear the station.
- In an area receiving strong radio signals, the tuning TUN LED
indicator will remain lit up during the radio function, but you may
still need to fine tune.
2. Press TUNING - or + once to stop search tuning completely.
3. If necessary, fine tune to your station by pressing TUNING - or +
once or as often as required until the right frequency is found.
Selecting and storing frequencies: presets
You can store the frequencies of 10 radio stations in the memory, 5 on
each wave band. A stored frequency is only erased from the memory
by storing another frequency in its place.
1. Select the wave band and tune to your desired station.
2. Press PROG to store your station.

3. Press a PKSET number to allocate your station as a preset.

stops flashing: your station is now stored.
4. To listen to a preset station, select the required wave band and then
press the PRESET number of your desired station.

Erasing the PRESET memory
1. Use a bail-point to press the RESET hole,
- You will hear a click to indicate that all preset stations stored
and the last station tuned to have been cleared.
2. All settings must now be reprogrammed into the memory.
CASSETTE PLAYBACK
1. Set TAPE/RADIO to TAPE
2 Connect the headphones to the О socket.
3. Open the cassette door and insert a tape into the tape holder with
the full reel of the tape on your left.
4. Press the door lightly to shut.
5. To start playback, press ◄.
- The BA'TT power indicator lights up during playback.
6. Adjust the sound with VOLUME and the DBB (bass) controls.
7. To stop, press ■ and the set is switched off.
- At the end of a tape, the cassette keys are automatically
released and the set switched off.
8. To fast wind, press

«. Press ■ to stop fast winding.

Using the belt clip
1. To attach, position the shaped grip (found on the back of the belt
clip) so that it fits into the belt clip hole.
2. Turn the clip to LOCK as indicated on the set.
3. To detach, gently lift the belt clip and turn to RELEASE as indicated
on the set.
TAKE CARE WHEN USING HEADPHONES
Hearing safety: Listen at a moderate volume. Use at high volume
can impair your hearing!
Traffic safety:
Do not use headphones while driving or cycling as
you may cause an accident!
MAINTENANCE
• For qua!ity playback, clean the magnetic head after every 50 hours
of operation or, on average once a month by playing through a
cleaning tape.
• Do not expose the set and cassettes to rain, moisture, sand or to
excessive heat e.g. heating equipment, car parked in direct sunlight.
imiRONMENTAL NOTE
• The packaging has been minimized so that it is easy to separate
into two mono-materials: cardboard and plastic. Please observe the
local regulations regarding the disposal of these packaging
materials.
• Please inquire about local regulations on how to hand in your old
set for recycling.
• Batteries contain chemical substances, so they should be disposed
of properly.
TROUBLESMOOTING
If a fault occurs, first check the points listed below before taking the
set for repair. If you are unable to remedy a problem by following these
hints, consult your dealer or service centre.
WARNING: Under no circumstances should you try to repair the
set yourself, as this will invalidate your guarantee.
Hum when using power adapter_____________________________________________
- Adapter used is unsuitable
• Use a good quality regulated 3V DC adapter.

- Headphones plug not fully inserted
• Insert plug fully
- Volume is turned down
