4. Look into the chamber to make sure there are no obstructions in the barrel.
5. Clean the barrel with a cotton patch to remove any oil or grease residues.
6. Point the muzzle downrange in a safe direction.
7. Carefully insert one cartridge of the proper caliber into the breech
(see picture 11).

8. Close the action by pushing down the breech block; make sure the
locking block is solidly engaged (see picture 12).

1.
If a cartridge doesn’t slide easily in the chamber, remove it and check the cartridge chamber to make sure
it is not obstructed or ruined.
2. Check the cartridge to make sure it is of correct caliber and dimension.
3. Do not use ammunition with a protruding primer; you risk accidentally shooting the ammo when closing the
breech block.
4. You are now ready to fire the rifle.
UNLOADING YOUR SPRINGFIELD TRAPDOOR RIFLE
1. After firing, put the hammer in half cock position.
2. Open the action as instructed above and the spent round will be extracted from the chamber.
3. Pull the spent case out.
4. Always keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction.
