BRAKE ADJUSTMENT

The brake adjustment is made by tightening the

hex nut on the brake band to compensate for

wear. Turn the hex nut one half turn and test the
brakes. Repeat until the brake is adjusted. See
figure 20.

CHAIN ADJUSTMENT

The chain may require adjustment after a period of

use. Chain adjustment may also be necessary

when the height adjustment is changed. The chain

is adjusted as follows:

Step 1. Loosen elastic lock nuts on two rear

adjustment wheel hanger supports.

Step 2. Move rear axle assembly forward or back­

ward as needed to make the proper
adjustment.

Step 3. Tighten elastic lock nuts securely. See

figure 21.

BELT REPLACEMENT

NOTE

If there IS gasoline in the gasoline
tank, place a piece of thin plastic
under the gas cap and tighten the
gas cap securely.

TRANSMISSION BELT REPLACEMENT

Step 1. Lift the front end of the rider up so it

rests on the rear wheels and seat.

Disconnect the spark plug wire and

ground it against the engine block.

Step 2. Remove the blade by removing the hex

head cap screw in the center of the blade.
Hold the blade with one hand and using a
V

2

open end, box or adjustable wrench,

remove the bolt. See figure 22.

NOTE

Wrap a rag around the blade to pro­
tect your hand.
