Input mode display

Input signal display

The “DIGITAL” indicator lights
when digital signals are being input
properly. If the “DIGITAL” indicator
does not light, check whether the
Digital In Assignment setup (
page 16) and connections are correct
and whether the component’s
power is turned on.

NOTE:
• The “DIGITAL” indicator will light when playing CD-ROMs

containing data other than audio signals, but no sound will
be heard.

Press the

ANALOG

button to switch to the analog

input.

Selecting the analog mode

ANALOG (exclusive analog audio signal playback mode):

The signals input to the analog input terminals are decoded
and played.

NOTE:
• Input mode when playing DTS sources:

Noise will be output if DTS-compatible CDs or LDs are
played in the “ANALOG” or “PCM” mode.
When playing DTS-compatible sources, be sure to connect
the source component to the digital input terminals
(OPTICAL/COAXIAL) and set the input mode to “DTS”.

2-channel playback modes

• The AVR-486 is equipped with 2-channel playback modes

exclusively for music.

• Select the mode to suit your tastes.

Press the

DIRECT/STEREO

button on the main unit

or the

DIRECT

button on the remote control unit to

select the DIRECT mode.

DIRECT mode

Use this mode to achieve good quality 2-channel sound while
watching images. In this mode, the audio signals bypass such
circuits as the tone circuit and are transmitted directly, resulting
in good quality sound.

Press the

DIRECT/STEREO

button on the main unit

or the

STEREO

button on the remote control unit to

select the STEREO mode.

STEREO mode

Use this mode to adjust the tone and achieve the desired sound
while watching images.
