2 What Happens When the Motherboard Battery is

Depleted

For Doremi Servers, there is minimal damage when a motherboard battery is depleted.

If the unit is on or in stand-by mode while the battery transits from a working status to a
depleted status, there is no functionality issue. The unit will continue to work normally until the
power is disconnected from the unit.

If the power cords are not plugged in and the battery goes below the working threshold, when
booting the unit, there will be 2 error messages, as shown in Figure 1.

Figure 1: Error Messages

The user is notified that there is an error in the date and time settings, and that the System CMOS
checksum is bad. These are the symptoms of a depleted battery.

Also, the user is prompted to choose between pressing the <F1> key to resume booting (with the
wrong date and default settings) or to press the <Del> key to go in BIOS and re-do the custom
settings and the date/time. You must choose <Del>.

After BIOS setup, press F10 to save the new BIOS configuration and exit. The unit will continue to
boot and will work without any problems, until the unit is powered off and the power cords are
unplugged. To prevent any problems, it is necessary to replace the motherboard battery before
powering off the unit, as shown below.
