Section 3:

Electrical Installation

CAUTION: Only qualified individuals should access the electrical components of the display and its
associated equipment. It is the responsibility of the electrical contractor to ensure that all electrical
work meets or exceeds local and national codes.

Daktronics engineering staff must approve all changes or the warranty will be void.

3.1 Indoor Scoreboard Power

Electrical Hookup, Indoor Display, 230 V ............................................... Drawing A-130676

Indoor scoreboards feature a 120 VAC power cord with a three-prong plug. Install a grounded
receptacle near the equipment so that the power cord can easily reach it. Displays operating on
240 VAC are also available, and they are shipped equipped with a universal power plug. The
control console requires a 120 VAC receptacle and uses less than 1 A of power.

Note: If the power cord is not already installed, refer to Drawing A-130661 for 120 VAC
displays or Drawing A-130676 for 240 VAC displays.

Grounding

Connect the scoreboard to earth ground. Proper grounding assures reliable equipment
operation and protects the equipment against damaging electrical disturbances and lightning.
Daktronics recommends a resistance-to-ground of 10 ohms or less. The electrical contractor
performing the electrical installation can verify ground resistance. Daktronics Sales and
Service personnel can also provide this service. The grounding connection on the power
cord’s three-prong plug connects to the shell of the scoreboard.

Note: The customer must properly ground the outlet according to local and national
codes. Failure to ground the outlet voids the warranty for the scoreboard.

Begin by opening the left access panel of the module (Refer to Drawing A-130661):

1. Mount the power/signal plate in the left side of the lowest digit module in the

display. Remove both the 2" knockout and the upper 7/8" knockout from the left end
of the module. Run the power cord out of the module through the knockout and
position the plate inside, on the end. Secure the plate with two screws, inserting them
externally through the pre-drilled holes.

2. Route the cable from the power/signal plate into the driver enclosure and connect

the 5-pin jack to the mating plug.

Note: All the connectors are “keyed”— they can only fit into the jacks one way.

3. Insert 2'' bushings into the holes between modules.
