Display Maintenance
If all the colon segments are not working, it may be possible to replace the breakout board
instead of every segment. To replace the breakout board, follow these steps:
1. Open the digit panel as described in Section 6.1.
2. Disconnect all connectors from the breakout board by squeezing together the locking
tabs and pulling the connector free.
Note: It may be helpful to label the cables to know which cable goes to which
connector when reattaching the new breakout board.
3. The breakout board is secured to the inside of the display with fixed machine screws,
spacers, and hex nuts. Remove the nuts and lift the board off the standoff screws.
4. Position a new breakout board over the screws and tighten the nuts.
5. Reconnect the power/signal connectors.
Note: The connectors are keyed and will attach in one way only. Do not attempt to
force the connections.
6. Close and secure the digit panel, then power up and test the display to see if
changing the breakout board has resolved the problem.

In the display, the LED driver performs the task of switching digits on and off. The LED
driver is located inside a driver enclosure. Refer to Figure 11 to view the location and
components of a driver enclosure for the TI-2020 (TI-2021 is similar).
Drawing A-178820 and Drawing A-305729 in Appendix A show component locations for the
TI-2020 and TI-2021, respectively.
