APEX 5000 Positioner NAMUR Accessories
Introduction:
The Apex 5000 Modular Positioning System (AMPS) features
a NAMUR output port/accessory mounting screw pattern.
This feature enables use of several NAMUR accessories:
1. Flow Control Module: This module is a wafer block
including one check-and-needle style flow control valve
for each port. It allows free flow to the actuator and
restricts exhaust flow from the actuator. Applications
for this module include situations where system valve
hydrodynamic torque causes system overshoot by acting
to assist closing or opening. Spring return actuators can
also cause overshoot in the fail direction. The flow control
module reduces overshoot by restricting exhaust flow,
thereby slowing travel.
2. Block and Bleed Module: This module is a manually
operated spool valve. In the normal position, it allows
free flow to and from the actuator. When actuated, it
blocks flow from the positioner and vents air from the
actuator allowing actuator/valve manual override. It can
be locked in the block and bleed position with a simple
padlock.
3. NAMUR Solenoid Valves: Any NAMUR mount solenoid
or pneumatic pilot valve can be mounted allowing
numerous override configurations.
Namur accessory kits include (1) NAMUR module (or
modules), (1) 1/4 NPT block, (4) o-rings (2 additional for
each additional accessory), and (2) mounting screws.
Installation:
1. Remove supply pressure, disconnect actuator tubing at
positioner output ports and remove fittings from positioner.
2. Clean any pipe sealant, dirt, or other foreign material from
NAMUR mounting surface.
3. Place (2) o-rings in o-ring pockets of NAMUR accessory(s)
and of NPT block.
4. Place accessory and NPT block against positioner with
o-ring side towards positioner.
5. Fasten with (2) mounting screws.
6. Install tubing fittings in NPT block. Caution: Do not use
Teflon tape as a pipe thread sealant. Use only a liquid or
paste non-hardening pipe sealant on the threads.
7. Connect actuator tubing.
