REMOTE AUDIO
The Speak Easy R1 is a 2-channel powered speaker that fits into a standard single rack space. Made for
professional program audio monitoring, such as in equipment rooms and sound carts, its power-efficient,
light-weight, and compact design make it particularly well suited for field production. The R1 is powered by
12VDC through standard 4-pin XLR and 2.1mm connectors. The R1 also provides a high-quality output for
stereo headphones via a front mounted ¼" TRS jack.
The R1 accepts balanced or unbalanced line level signals on rear-mounted LEFT and RIGHT XLR
connectors, as well as an unbalanced stereo signal (such as from a headphone amplifier) on a ¼" TRS
connector.

On the film/video production set:
With the R1 mounted in a production sound cart, the operator can take their headphones off and still listen
to what's happening on the set, communicate with the boom operator, playback a take for the director, or
play some tunes during lunch. With an idle power consumption of less than 100mA, the Speak Easy R1
has an almost negligible affect on the battery systems typical of most sound carts.
In the equipment room or production truck:
The R1 can be mounted in machine rooms as a compact program monitor to listen to content. The selector
switch can be used to verify left-right integrity and proper phase alignment of a 2-channel signal.

1) Illuminated ON-OFF switch that physically latches. This simple but important feature means that the
R1 can be left in the ON position when system power is turned off, and automatically come back on
when system power resumes. (Other powered speakers require the power switch to be manually turned
back on after each power cycle.)
