It is important that your trailer is serviced on a regular basis to ensure your own safety and that of other road

users. This should include brakes, bearings, lights, jockey wheel, over-run unit (If fitted), tyres and all other

moving mechanical parts.

Ensure the breakaway cable is in good condition. Replace if the cable looks to be damaged or degraded.

Ensure that the towing vehicle has a correctly and solidly mounted tow bar. For detachable type tow bars contact

the manufacturer/supplier for guidance.

Before setting off ensure the breakaway cable is securely fastened.

There must be no load projections outside the trailer that might cause danger to other road users or interfere with

the breakaway cable.

Always ensure that the trailer is correctly connected to the tow bar before setting off.

Before setting off ensure that any jockey wheel fitted is in the up position and properly secured

2. ATTACHING THE CABLE

2.1. Attach the spring ring end of the breakaway cable to the

handbrake of the caravan or trailer, the ring can be separated

slightly to aid attaching the trailer. See fig.1 for an example but

check with your trailer manufacturer for the correct place to

attach the cable.

2.2. Run the cable down the frame and through any cable guides.

2.3. The spring clip end attaches to the tow bar, many tow bars have

a specific attachment point for breakaway cables (see fig.2).

Ensure that the cable is fed through the hole, looped round and clipped back

onto itself.

IMPORTANT! This product is NOT designed to be directly clipped to

the tow bar with the spring clip.

2.4. If your tow bar does not have a breakaway cable attachment point, loop the

cable around the tow ball and secure by clipping back onto itself.

NOTE! If your tow bar is the detachable type, please seek guidance from the tow

bar manufacturer or supplier.

1. SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

3. USE

3.1. Make sure the cable runs straight and through the cable guides and under the trailer coupling.

3.2. Ensure when the cable is attached that there is enough slack so that when the trailer moves the cable does

not pull taught and applies the brakes. Also that the cable is not so slack as to touch the ground and weaken

from friction, or snag on the trailer frame, jockey wheel etc. and engage the brakes.

3.3. Regularly check the cable for wear or damage, if in doubt contact your supplier or replace the breakaway

cable.
