Spark Arrester Service

The spark arrester must be serviced every 100
hours to keep it functioning as designed.

If the engine has been running, the muffler will be
very hot. Allow the muffler to cool before servicing
the spark arrester.

1. Remove the four 5 x 18 mm bolts from the

recoil starter, and remove the recoil starter.

2. Disconnect the spark plug cap from the spark

plug. Pull the spark plug wire and the ignition
switch wire out of the retainers in the top cover.

3. Remove the two 5 x 22 mm bolts from the top

cover, and remove the top cover.

4. Remove the three 5 mm screws from the

muffler cover, and remove the muffler cover.

5. Remove the special screw from the exhaust

deflector, and remove the exhaust deflector.

6. Remove the special screw from the spark

arrester, and remove the spark arrester.

7. Use a brush to remove carbon deposits from

the spark arrester screen. Be careful to avoid
damaging the screen.

The spark arrester must be free of breaks and
holes. Replace the spark arrester if it is
damaged.

8. Install the spark arrester, muffler cover, top

cover, and recoil starter in the reverse order of
disassembly.
