Adding a Fuel Stabilizer

can cause overheating and
damage.

When adding a fuel stabilizer, fill the
fuel tank with fresh gasoline. If only
partially filled, air in the tank will
promote fuel deterioration during
storage. If you keep a container of
gasoline for refueling, be sure that it
contains only fresh gasoline.

You can avoid fuel deterioration
problems by draining the fuel tank
and carburetors.

With the outboard motor in a
vertical position, place an
approved gasoline container below
the fuel drain outlet, and use a
funnel to avoid spilling fuel.

Place a container under the
outboard motor, and fill it with
clean, fresh water. The water level
must be at least 6 inches above the
antiventilation plate.

outboard motor without water is not

Turn the engine OFF, turn the fuel
valve lever OFF (p.13), and close
the fuel cap vent knob (p.15).

Add fuel stabilizer following the
manufacturer’s instructions.

Refer to previous page for proper
running procedure. After adding a
fuel stabilizer, run the engine
outdoors for 10 minutes to be sure
that the treated gasoline has
replaced the untreated gasoline in
the carburetor.
