colors are bleeding into each other

parts of the original do not appear or are cut off

a blank page came out while copying

cause

solution

The print cartridges
may have a fiber
build up.

Print a Self-Test report. If the report shows that the ink looks as if something
has brushed up against it, clean the ink cartridges. If you are still having
problems, replace the print cartridges.

cause

solution

Color documents can
use excessive
amounts of ink.

Try using the Normal setting or use HP Premium Papers.

The paper type is not
suitable for the unit.

For information on choosing a paper type, see recommended papers on
page 8 an
d papers to avoid when copying on page 9.

cause

solution

The original is not
placed on the glass or
in the ADF correctly.

For more information on loading originals, see load originals on page 5.

The original fills the
margins.

If the image or text on your original fills the entire page without leaving a
margin, use the Fit to Page feature.

The original is larger
than the paper in the
tray.

• Verify that you are copying to the same size paper as the original. This

problem is most common when trying to copy a legal-sized paper onto
letter-sized paper.

• Verify that you have selected the proper paper size for your project.

Make sure you have loaded the correct paper size in the tray and the
tray is properly installed.

• Use the Reduce/Enlarge feature to resize the original to fit on the paper

in the paper tray.

The paper guides
block the paper.

The paper guides should be close to the edges of the paper in the input
tray, but must not bend the paper. Remove the paper, and then move the
left paper guide all the way to the left. Insert the paper, and then move the
front paper guide even with the paper. Move the left paper guide to the
edge of the paper.

cause

solution

The print cartridges
are out of ink.

Print a Self-Test Report to diagnose problems with the print cartridges. First
clean the cartridges, and then replace them if necessary.
